I went late fall and the colors of leaves and buildings highlighted one another in the setting sun. It's a good thinking spot, too. No benches at the top, so bring camp chairs when you go. Or just sit right down on it. That's what it's there for. :-)
The stairs spiral up both side of the mountain to better reach the top (I just walked straight up the side. Idk if you're supposed to). There are no handrails, so bring a friend who can help you, if you are not comfortable climbing alone. Stands at least 24+ft tall.
Historical plaques all around telling about Indian burial site
My mother grew up here as a child and told me about all the concerts they used to have here. It's a beautiful area to walk and a nice spot to relax.
Great place to see a view of South Charleston. Sure, it doesn't capture the totality of South Charleston, but it's high enough to see it and still be in it.
If you like history I would recommend going here.
A nice park and a great place to walk. Ample parking, close to restaurants and stores, and in a safe and well lit area. Featuring an ancient burial mound, war memorial, sculptures, performance area, historical markers, shade trees, lots of benches, and brick and stone walkways. You can climb two sets of stairs to find a beautiful view from the top of The Mound. Known locally as just "The Mound."
